"Superhero party" at Palma Convention Center

On Sunday February 4, World Cancer Day, the Palma Convention Centre opened its doors to children for a fundraising day full of activities and surprises for kids. The money raised has been donated in full to the NGO “Sonrisa Médica”, an organisation that brings a bit of fun and laughter to children in hospital in Mallorca.

The theme for the day is "Superhero Party", and the idea is that the kids get to enjoy a great party in the Convention Centre while at the same time learning that just a small gesture of charity can help make other children happy thanks to the work of “Sonrisa Médica”, whose clowns visit children in hospital to make fun and laughter a part of their recovery process.

Tickets were priced at 5 euros per child (adults free), donated in full to the NGO. Entrance also included a welcome bag for each child with some gifts and a passport where they could get a stamp for each activity they took part in during the party. In cooperation with the event organization agency Pidelaluna, the Convention Centre prepared various workshops and children's games with entertainers and clowns, such as a cookery workshop, face-painting, bookmark workshop or mini-football, among others. There were bouncy castles and a raffle with several prizes, with the funds once again going to “Sonrisa Médica”.

Children are the focus of the social positioning of the Convention Centre, in line with the corporate responsibility model of Meliá Hotels International, the company that operates the Convention Centre. Since it opened in April 2017, it has carried out several activities to help the most vulnerable children in Mallorca, such as sponsoring the first charity race organised by the Rafa Nadal Foundation, charity concerts to support UNICEF and various leisure activities for children at risk of social exclusion such as the first children's cinema event or the organized visits to the Katmandu amusement park in Magaluf.

Other organisations taking part in this initiative are Pidelaluna, the Spanish Association Against Cancer, Fundació Reial Mallorca, Mallorca Fiesta, Futbolines Mallorca, Opera Sites, Cuckysus, Borbalán and Fotografía José Gámez.
