The present and future of the MICE segment in Mallorca under debate

The Palau de Congressos de Palma hosted the event "Mallorca Destino MICE" on December 13 and 14, the first meeting for professionals from the Meetings & Events sector of the island, whose objective was to create a roadmap to make the island of Mallorca a top business tourism destination internationally.

More than 170 attendees (including event agencies, convention bureau, hotel chains and other profffesionals) participated in the different round tables, where they shared the best practices of some of the most cutting-edge destinations in Europe, such as Barcelona, Malaga or Bilbao. In addition, during these two days, the current MICE trends were reviewed and various trainings and discussion groups were held.

Ramón Vidal, general manager of the Palau de Congressos de Palma, gave the welcome speech, where he praised the extraordinary complementary offer of Mallorca and its hotel facilities, in the process of modernization and transformation, concluding that "we have everything the MICE client needs”. Finally, he pointed out that "as it can not be otherwise, the Palma Convention Center will act as a lever and generator of wealth and social development in Mallorca".

María Renart, director of the Fundació Mallorca Turisme, highlighted the need for collaboration between public institutions, professional associations and the private sector as a driving force for the evolution of the MICE industry in Mallorca. She also assured that "the creation of unique experiences in the destination will be one of the keys to boost the MICE tourism on the island, and for this we must enhance the attractive differentials of Mallorca throughout the year: nature, gastronomy, culture, urban tourism, etc." On this aspect, Renart recalled that the current MICE client profile is also interested in leisure, in reference to the growing Bleisure trend, which results from combining business trips with leisure.

Co-organized by the Palau de Congressos de Palma, the Meeting Professionals International association (MPI) and Pidelaluna Events with the main sponsorship of the Tourist Agency of the Balearic Islands (ATB) and Meliá Hotels International, the event is the first specialized forum of this magnitude in the Balearic Islands.
