The Palma Convention Centre and Cinesa join forces for child welfare and take 250 children at risk of exclusion to the cinema
The Palma Convention Centre, managed by Meliá Hotels International, and Cinesa hosted an event today for 250 children at risk of exclusion at which they were able to see one of the most popular children's movies in theatres this Christmas.
All of the children form part of different programmes supported by local organisations such as the Balearic Red Cross, the Pere Tarrés Foundation, the Natzaret Foundation, the Padre Montalvo Foundation and the Aldaba Foundation, all of which are regular partners of Meliá Hotels International. The event allowed the children to enjoy an exclusive viewing room at the Cinesa Festival Park cinema in the Mallorca Fashion Outlet Mall to see a private viewing of the movie Ferdinand accompanied by popcorn and soft drinks. The smile on the faces of the children made it plain to see that they thoroughly enjoyed their movie morning.
The screening was also supported by FOX, distributor of the movie Ferdinand, who provided the movie for free.

This event was made possible thanks to the fact that both the Convention Centre and Cinesa share objectives to support the most vulnerable children and are committed to helping children enjoy access to cultural and leisure activities to assist in social integration. Children are the main focus of the Convention Centre’s social action programme, and it has worked on several projects to help children at risk of exclusion in Palma since its opening. For Ramón Vidal Castro, Managing Director of the Convention Centre, "events like this, in which organisations that are focused on child welfare work together, allow us not only to create quality leisure time for the kids, but also to promote partnerships that will have a positive impact on families".
Cinesa is a leading company in cinema and leisure in Spain, and its social responsibility programme "Cinesa on the move", aims to allow children access to attractive quality leisure facilities. Ramón Biarnes, Managing Director of Cinesa for Spain and Portugal adds that "it is very satisfying to be able to contribute in such an enriching way to children's access to culture. At Cinesa, we aim to help out through our more than 500 movie theatres throughout Spain. That’s why we always try to remember the more disadvantaged members of our society, and it’s always a pleasure to be able to take part in actions like this as part of our “Cinesa on the move" programme.
The Corporate Responsibility teams at Cinesa and Meliá Hotels International have worked together to organize this children's cinema event so that vulnerable children could enjoy a very special morning. The management teams of both companies were delighted with "the great response to the activity” and highlighted “the kids’ excitement at going to the movies and the fun they had, because, at the end of the day, we must never forget that they are children..."
