Palma presents its finest cuisine in London
The Palma Tourism 365 Foundation, a public body that works to promote Palma as a travel destination, transformed the Meliá White House Hotel in London into a traditional Majorcan dining room to share a gastronomic experience with a group of twenty British influencers.
The event was held on November 9 as part of the World Travel Market, one of the most important travel and tourism trade fairs in the world, and was led by two exceptional ambassadors: the Michelin-starred chefs Marc Fosh and Tomeu Caldentey, who were in charge of preparing a menu with a Majorcan accent.
The event aimed to raise the profile of Majorcan cuisine, one of the key attractions in the promotion of Palma as a winter destination. The Councillor for Tourism, Trade and Employment for Palma, Joana Maria Adrover, hosted the event, welcoming around twenty British experts and opinion leaders, and journalists from The Guardian, The Times, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph and Food Republic, among others.
Adrover stressed that "our cuisine is increasingly popular and can be enjoyed 365 days a year, making it always a part of the journey. That is why we have included it as one of the highlight experiences of our tourism strategy."
The Meliá White House Hotel, part of the Meliá Hotels International group, was the venue chosen by the Palma Tourism 365 Foundation to host event due to its Majorcan roots. The La Albufera Restaurant welcomed guests to a tasting menu prepared with a selection of the highest quality Majorcan ingredients, including chilled almond soup and olive oil with marinated mahi-mahi, green apple, oxalis and samphire (Marc Fosh), Dublin Bay prawns flambéed with Majorcan dry herb liqueur (Tomeu Caldentey), Majorcan wild sea bass with saffron and lemon verbena (Marc Fosh), Majorcan lamb with pomegranates and Minorcan rice (Tomeu Caldentey) and, to finish, lemon cream in brine with cherry sorbet and rose water (Marc Fosh) and chocolate carob with “palo” liqueur (Tomeu Caldentey).
